The 2012 PKA International Convention is July, 26-29 in Denver. See The PIKEline for this month or go to Pikes.org and see 2012 convention at bottom of page for all the details. Basically, it is $400 for each brother plus air and hotel. This can be broken down into sessions for the Pike University at $165 and $225, respectively. Also, day passes are available from $75 up to $160.

We will receive our Charter on Friday night at the President’s Banquet and must have at least one brother there or will be fined $1000. John Stidham is our delegate and Jay Nicholson (our chapter adviser) is trying to make arrangements to attend. Jay informed me he could cover his airfare and I told him I will cover his room for Friday and Saturday nights ( $182 nightly with tax). Also, Brother Kevin Green has committed to one full scholarship.

Men, we had a very successful year in 2010 and I am asking you to keep the momentum going by providing scholarships for this event or financial support for transportation and lodging. Our goal is to cover the costs for 4 brothers.

Please, consider what you can do to contribute to this very important Convention for Zeta Chi.

At this point, just let me know what you would like to contribute as we are still working out all the details and I will coordinate with Derek Pon. Also, please consider cashing in some of your travel award points for air or hotel. We are on a short time frame, please let me know what you can do by Friday July, 6Th. As you know this past weekend May 4, 5, 2012 the ZX colony was installed into the ZX chapter. Thanks for all those that attended and sent well wishes! Here is a brief rundown of the weekend. Friday night 80 ZX colony members where initiated. There were 4 rooms completing the ritual going at the same time. Many thanks to the men from Iowa State, Rockhurst, William Woods and Missouri S&T for making this happen. It started at 6 pm and the last ZX was initiated at 2:30 am.

Saturday at 2 pm was the chapter installation where ZX was officially installed as an active chapter. PKA International President Kevin Virta presided over the ceremony. He was supported by Joseph F. Wegelin, Director of Expansion, Lance Horner, Director of Services, Larry Eby, Regional President.
Saturday evening was the chartering banquet and University Plaza. All 80 chapter members were in a black tux and the lovely ladies that attended with them enhanced the evening. We enjoyed a great meal and speakers of Dr. Earle Doman and Andrea Weber from MSU along with the IFC and Panhellenic Presidents. Kevin Virta was the keynote speaker. Chapter awards were presented along with naming ZX’s Dream Girl. Twenty alumni attended the banquet. The actual charter will be presented to ZX in Denver, CO at the PKA National Convention this summer.

The firetruck was in attendance all weekend and took Kevin Virta and others for a ride around campus after the banquet.
The chapter has strong numbers and great leadership. Along with a very active Chapter Advisory (Jay Nicholson) and Zeta Chi Alumni Association (ZXAA), they are set up for long term success. Baxter Hall Properties is actively looking for housing opportunities for the chapter. The scholarship committee just this week made their recommendation for the 1st John Jackson Zeta Chi Pike Scholarship winner. The firetruck committee is standing by to have the 1940 Ford available when the chapter calls. ZX has it going on!!!!
What can you do?

1.) Send your $50 annual dues to ZXAA by going to www.zetachipikes.com. Expenses have grown with firetruck insurance and storage. We also are wanting to support ZX’s efforts to travel to Denver and Pike U. We need everyone to kick in $50 bucks each year to continue our programs.

2.) I am fully aware of the difficulties of making all the events. Make yourself available and attend homecoming, annual meeting, one event every year or every other year.

3.) Stay current in the directory, update changes so we can maintain communication.

4.) Pick up the phone and call a ZX you haven’t talked with in years.

ZX is a special group of people. We did want many thought impossible, not so with ZX. “Together We Can Achieve Great Things”

Gentlemen-

Pi Kappa Alpha turned 144 years old on March 1st!! We should all feel good that ZX is alive a well, currently with a 105 man colony. They will complete the charting process within 12 months. Chartering is a difficult process and requires a day to day commitment. Only 20 % of PIKE colonies charter in 12 months and ZX did it! Chartering is set for May 5, 2012. More details will be coming as they are developed. Baxter Hall Properties (ZX Housing Corporation) is actively searching for ZX housing to rent for next fall. They are an extremely active bunch and very PIKE.

ZXAA (Zeta Chi Alumni Association) remains involved and very active. Founder’s Day is also the time to join or renew your annual $50 ZXAA dues. The options of PayPal and mailing a check remain available (1638 S. Enterprise, Springfield, MO 65804). Your payment is the only source a revenue available to ZXAA and used to support ZXAA and ZX. Expenses for operating ZXAA remain very low, the majority of revenue is spent on the fire truck (insurance, storage and maintenance), ZX scholarships and special programs, and the ZXAA annual meeting.

A new year and new things for ZXAA! Coming off the award winning year for ZXAA-Outstanding Alumni Association 2011-we continue to be active and communicate with alumni. I wanted to provide an update on events and ZX.

The ZX colony continues to impress and work towards chartering this Spring. The chartering process is difficult and requires a day to day commitment. They have completed everything necessary to this point and are on time to charter this Spring. Jay Nicholson is the Alumni Advisor and continues his leadership with the colony. As I have said, they are an impressive bunch and hope everyone has an opportunity to spend time with them. More will be coming to you as the chartering nears. They are expecting a successful Spring RUSH with a goal of 25.

Zeta Chi Alumni Association (ZXAA) Housing Corporation is officially in place. Baxter Hall Properties (BHP) is currently seeking a house to rent for the colony/chapter for the Fall semester of 2012. I think everyone will agree to the importance of a house for ZX. A requirement of the colony is no charter, no house. Mac Humphries is the President of BHP and we need to thank Mike Cully, Gary Burgess and Mac for getting Baxter Hall Properties in place. Dues come out each year on March 1. This year, by popular request, we will add the option of automatically renewing your dues each year by credit card. You complete this once and forget about it! This will be a PayPal option you select and each year on March 1 your credit card will be charged $50. Dues are the only source of income ZXAA has and your support is needed each year for continue success. The other options for paying dues will continue.

It’s Ali Zakka, and I am Pi Kappa Alpha’s Relay for life team captain. Relay for Life is a fundraising event that fight against cancer. As team captain, I have to assemble a team and try to raise a $100 and each member is required to do the same. The money that is raised will go towards treatments and help cancer patients cope with the disease in a positive way. The final event for Relay for Life is Friday April the 13th which will last from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. The night will basically be a celebration and more fundraising events to help relieve the troubles of cancer patients. Some of my ideas for raising money are to ask students in the dining halls, hold a video game tournament and maybe a rock concert. With all of this being said, I would like to ask you, would you be interested in donating some money to help the cause? The colony will host several colony/alumni events this year. Dates scheduled are February 13, March 1, April 9, 2012 from 6-8 pm and will all be held at Ebbet’s Field South, 3662 S Glenstone Ave, Springfield, MO 65804. The colony is charged $200 for the event and all food and drink during that time comes off the charge. Alumni should stop by and have dinner, drink of choice, on these nights with the colony. There will also be give away items! As with all our events spouses and others are welcome.

On December 26, 2011 in St. Charles, Missouri, Zeta Chi Pikes of all ages, including four Colony members, met during an annual gathering of St. Louis area Pikes. For the first time, this longstanding event was opened up to the entire chapter, both past and present. Gary is being cremated, and Ellen, his wife has made arrangements to have a visitation at Kutis on Gravois this Thursday, Dec. 29 from 5-8PM. The priest from Assumption will have a brief prayer service around 7-7:30 that evening, during the visitation. Ellen is requesting donations in Gary’s memory to the Kidney Foundation. His obituary will be in Wednesday’s Post Dispatch newspaper.
