June 30, 2007-Zeta Chi KC Gathering-Special Guest John Jackson

June 12th, 2007

I hope everyone is doing well.

Mac Humphries, Kent Jennings and I are planning a Pike gathering in the KC area on Saturday, June 30 at 7 PM at Mac’s house (thanks to him and Paula for hosting.) They live at 15357 Carter Rd., Overland Park, KS 66221.

John Jackson (Active-January 1975) will be our special guest from Richmond that evening. Most of you know John has been diagnosed with ALS. He is very positive in his attitude and spirit. He is sending his wife Kathy to the lake for the weekend with her girlfriends and is looking forward to partying with us and talking about old times.

We are open to old, young and in between, local and remote Pikes and spouses attending. Depending on how things go we can try to arrange golf in the afternoon and or a softball game or B-Ball game (Kent will be our coordinator).

*****NOTE***** Please RSVP to Kevin Green (kjgreen20@kc.rr.com). We will provide a keg for starters. Please bring an appetizer and other beverages you may want to consume.

Two Zeta Chi Alumni Elected into Missouri State University Athletic Hall of Fame 07!

February 28th, 2007

Eric Adams was a four-year Missouri State soccer letterman and starter from 1985 to 1988 and was one of the early stars of a young Bears’ soccer program which moved from club level to full intercollegiate status in 1981. The Bears were competing as a Division I independent when Adams came to Missouri State in 1985 after two seasons as an all-conference selection at Kirkwood (Mo.) High. At MSU, he played forward for two seasons for the Bears of coach Frank Dinka and his final two campaigns for Jan Stahle when Stahle moved up from his post as assistant to become head coach in 1987. Adams got his Missouri State career off to a great start as he led the Bears in scoring his freshman season, collecting eight goals and four assists for 20 points as Missouri State posted a 7-10-2 season record. Adams was third on the team in scoring as a sophomore with seven points as he also served as a tri-captain for the Bears. With Stahle taking over the reins of the program in 1987, Adams was the only member of the squad to start in all 20 games for the Bears and he finished fourth in scoring with three goals and nine points as Missouri State upped its victory total again in a 9-10-1 season. Adams once again claimed the team scoring leadership as a senior captain in 1988 with six goals and three assists for 15 points as the Bears went 9-12-1. Following his playing days, Adams stayed on with the Bears to help Stahle as a student assistant coach for the 1989 season as the Bears began play in the Mid-Continent Conference. The 1989 Bears set a victory mark as they won 14 games and logged the program’s first-ever winning season in a 14-8 campaign that included a 3-3 conference record. Adams now lives in his native Kirkwood and is a regional manager for ScImage, Inc., an enterprise imaging and information management software company with more than 300 sites worldwide serving the health care industry.

Jim Prendergast was a four-year standout in the most successful era of Missouri State wrestling at the Division I level and was the wrestling Bears’ first Division I All-American. He came to MSU in 1989, redshirting his first year on campus after a successful four-year prep career at St. Louis DeSmet Jesuit High. Competing for Bears’ coach John Kriebs, Prendergast wrestled at 158 and 167 pounds during his Missouri State career. As a senior, his 31-8 record led the team in wins as he had a 14-0 dual mark and a 17-8 tournament record. He also led in pins (11) and team points (92.5) as the Bears won 11 of 14 dual meet decisions for the best dual winning percentage in school history. The Bears were second in the NCAA West Regional as Prendergast was one of three Bears to win their weight classes. That qualified Prendergast for the NCAA championship, where he had a 2-2 record. It was in Prendergast’s junior year of 1992-93 that he claimed NCAA All-American honors as he placed sixth at 158 pounds in the NCAA meet. He lost to the eventual champion at his weight class in the first round and then won four straight matches before falling in the consolation semifinals. Prendergast posted a season mark of 36-10, placed third in the NCAA West Regional, led the team in pins (10) and was second in team points (68). He was voted the Bears’ most valuable wrestler as MSU’s 13-8 record included the best single season dual meet win total ever. The Bears were 10-9-1 in Prendergast’s sophomore season as he had a 24-14-1 record and led MSU in pins (11) and team points (70). He was voted the Bears’ top freshman in 1990-91 with a 17-14 mark with five pins and 35 team points. Prendergast finished with the Missouri State wrestling career record in pins (37), was second in match victories (108) and ninth in winning percentage (.702). He now lives in St. Louis and is Director of Sales for Celebrity Coaches of Las Vegas.

Alumni Association Update

November 22nd, 2006

Greetings all Zeta Chi brethren! There is some very exciting movement within our Alumni Association in this, our first full year of existence.

For those who are joining us for the first time, the Association was formed in an effort to re-colonize the Zeta Chi Chapter after its silence on the campus of Missouri State University for nearly four years. Our effort has been met with involvement, commitment and excitement form all Zeta Chi Alumni.

Last summer we held our first annual meeting in Springfield, with more the 50 ZX alumni in attendance. We can now look forward to our next gathering this coming summer. Dates are to be announced soon. Be watching for your invitation!

In other recent social event news, the 25th Annual ZX Fall Float was held on the Eleven Point River in October. With more the 35 ZX alumni and friends of the chapter, the weekend yielded great trout fishing, fun floating and campfire stories by the score. Don’t miss next year’s event, and watch this website for details.

Now down to the business at hand: progress in the Alumni Association. Membership continues to be our NUMBER ONE PRIORITY. Our membership drive is moving toward its goal of 200 by the end of 2006 with 145 paid members to date. Final pushes were made by the membership committee during “call arounds” in October, November and into December. But, our contact lists are limited and incomplete. The Association needs YOUR HELP in contacting non-members.

The goal has always been to reach 200 by December 31, 2006. At our Association meeting in July two brothers have offered to pledge $10,000 each if the membership of 200 is met by the end of the year. THE PUSH IS ON FOR 200!!! We are asking everyone to make calls to alumni and tell them of the Association and importance of them becoming members to re-colonize Zeta Chi. Have anyone with questions to contact me at (417) 882-3266 or Jim.Roebuck.bky4@statefarm.com. WE NEED EVERYONE TO MAKE SEVERAL CONTACTS TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN! Together we can achieve great things, so pick up the phone, tell your brothers to log on the this website, print the form and send it with $50 payable to Zeta Chi Alumni Association. (“Join the Association” link)

What happens next? The Pi Kappa Alpha National Headquarters has calendared ZX to be re-colonized in the 2007-2008 school year. Once we reach our membership goal, Headquarters will seek approval from Missouri State University and IFC to start the re-colonization process. Headquarters will send in a re-colonization team of experts to handle the details. Once re-colonization is achieved it will be the duty of the Association to stay in close touch with the Chapter, provide management and leadership, lending youthful brothers our life experience and knowledge to allow them the same opportunity of learning and knowing the same benefits of Pi Kappa Alpha membership we enjoyed during our formative college years.

You can make this happen. Contact a brother today and urge them to join the Zeta Chi Alumni Association. Thanks for all of your support, have a safe and wonderful Holiday season.

Yours in Phi Phi KA-

Jim Roebuck, President
Zeta Chi Alumni Association
